Fort Kochi is the obvious base and it earns it. You can walk from the Chinese fishing nets along River Road to St Francis Church, the Dutch Cemetery and Santa Cruz Basilica in under twenty minutes, and the homestays on…

Before you book
The questions we get most, answered with this month’s numbers.
01 How cheap can hotels in Kochi actually get?
Off-peak, from June to September, clean double rooms in Fort Kochi homestays near Princess Street and Burgher Street run about ₹900 to ₹1,600 a night, and budget hotels around Ernakulam South railway station and MG Road sit at ₹1,100 to ₹1,800. Those two pockets are consistently the cheapest. Mid-range heritage rooms on Bazaar Road hold near ₹3,500.
02 When is the best time to visit Kochi?
December and January bring dry days near 32C and the highest rates, with Fort Kochi doubles often doubling to ₹5,000 or more over Christmas and New Year. June to August is southwest monsoon: heavy rain, humid, and the cheapest months, with discounts of 30 to 50 percent. October, November and February offer the best balance, roughly ₹2,000 to ₹3,000.
03 Where should I stay in Kochi on a first trip?
Fort Kochi suits first-timers who want to walk: Chinese fishing nets, St Francis Church and cafes all within ten minutes on foot, doubles from around ₹1,500. Mattancherry and Jew Town suit slower travellers who like spice warehouses and antique shops. Marine Drive in Ernakulam suits shoppers and business trips, with backwater views and easy metro access.
04 How do I get around Kochi without a car?
You do not need a car. Kochi Metro runs Aluva to Tripunithura with fares of ₹10 to ₹60, and the government ferry from Ernakulam Main Jetty to Fort Kochi costs under ₹10 and takes about 20 minutes. Autorickshaws start near ₹30. Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is roughly 40 to 50 minutes drive from Ernakulam.
05 What do visitors get wrong about Kochi?
Two things. Kerala has dry days, so bars and hotel bars close on the first of each month and on major polling and Gandhi Jayanti dates. Second, the Cochin Carnival on New Year and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale winter season fill Fort Kochi completely; book six to eight weeks ahead or expect ₹6,000 rooms that normally cost ₹2,200.
06 What does every booking removes a tonne of CO2 mean?
When you tap See price you are handed to app.impt.io to complete the booking. IMPT then funds one verified tonne of carbon removal for that stay, at no extra cost to you. Same hotel, same room, same price you would pay booking anywhere else. Nothing is added to your bill and nothing changes at check-in.
